1. Your outgoing message should be given in a friendly voice, stating your name and requesting that the caller leave a message and phone number. Keep it brief and to the point.
2. Avoid being cute or flippant. It is doesn’t convey the credible first impression that most of us want to communicate.
3. If you choose to keep the same voice mail message and not modify it daily, it should still be changed every three months.
4. If you are make your daily status available to callers, you need to update it every day, because it demonstrated excellent presence, so it takes a significant commitment.
5. Occasionally call your own number to evaluate how you would be perceived by new customer, colleague or vendor.
